Now home batteries are suddenly cheap and everywhere, and the reason isn’t a single breakthrough but a cascade of manufacturing scale, EV spillovers, and a dawning realisation that storing power at the edge changes who holds power.

Then the hardware got cheap, the software got simpler, and suddenly the default of renting someone else’s cloud looks less inevitable. Home batteries are doing the same for energy: making the local option boring, affordable, and quietly empowering.

The hardware has become a commodity, but the behaviour — the little optimiser that watches prices, weather, and your own patterns — is the new scarce thing. It’s not so different from an AI on a small computer, learning to do more with less, staying useful during outages, and preferring local decisions over distant ones.
